The Chinese military is struggling to get recruits – because of junk food and smartphones

It’s true. Army chiefs are blaming sugary food and technology for the increasing number of potential recruits failing to meet fitness standards, according to the state-controlled People’s Liberation Army Daily newspaper.

In one Chinese city, 57 per cent of try-outs were rejected because they failed the physical exam while one in five were simply labelled ‘too fat’.

The report, spread via WeChat, said this was ‘related to sitting too long on computer games and too little physical activity’.

Another 46 per cent failed the eyesight test – which was put down to them spending too much time on their smartphones and other electronic devices.

Other recruits were also found to suffer from liver and kidney problems caused by alcohol, soft drinks and sugary snacks.

The Chinese report did reassure its patriots that 80 per cent of US army applicants are rejected.

Looks like the US isn’t the only country find it hard to gets its Millennials out of McDonald’s.
