Only in America: Trump says he’s signed more bills than any other US President

The US President made the claim at a recent ‘Made in America’ event, saying: “We’ve signed more bills – and I’m talking about through the legislature – than any president ever.”

Here’s a clue – he hasn’t.

The current President has also fallen behind other recent presidents, the Washington Post reports.

According to data compiled by GovTrack, Trump has signed 42 bills so far in his first term. That compares to Jimmy Carter who signed 70, George H.W. Bush with 55 and Bill Clinton with 50.

All but one other president between 1901 and 1949 had beaten Trump as well.

He’s also falling short in other ways. Barack Obama signed 39 bills totalling 1,957 pages during the same time, including an $800 billion economic stimulus program, legislation to make it easier for women to sue for equal pay and an expansion of the federal health insurance program for children.

That compares to Trump with 880 pages, with 60 per cent of his bills just one page long.

The Don did later amend his statement to say: “I better say ‘think,’ otherwise they’ll give you a Pinocchio. And I don’t like those – I don’t like Pinocchios.”

Same here.
