96-year-old retirement village resident aims for 4th Sydney City2Surf race

Enid Webster, a resident at Adventist Senior Living’s Avondale retirement village in Cooranbong, 90km north of Sydney, has competed in the iconic 14km race every year since 2014.

This year, she’ll be walking with four generations of her family and says it’s not the finish time that’s important, but the achievement.

“I am often too busy to train, but always make time to complete 10,000 steps a day,” she says.

She’s also inspired staff at Adventist to take up their own challenges.

Age no barrier

Last year, Social Worker Megan Cousins did her first 2km Ocean Swim to raise funds for resident causes, while Sales and Marketing manager Felicity Pittaway signed up for a 30km mountain trail run in New Zealand, followed by a 45km marathon trail race in the Blue Mountains.

Even CEO David Knight has got in on the action, running in both the Blackmores Sydney Half Marathon in 2016 and the Port Macquarie Half Ironman this year.

Why? Because “if Enid can, I can”, they can – too right.
