No, really. The US President has proposed that his planned wall to stop illegal immigration from Mexico to the US be lined with solar panels to pay for its building.
Speaking at a Make America Great Again rally, Mr Trump said that the energy produced from the wall would mean Mexico would have to “pay much less money”.
“Pretty good imagination, right? It’s my idea,” he added.
Mr Trump ran his campaign on the promise that Mexico would pay for the wall – a plan they have rebuffed. Congress has also so far rejected the idea of funding it.
Solar experts say that the concept could work – but it would add another $1.4 billion to $4.2 billion to the wall’s original $67 billion costs according to BuzzFeed News.
“Putting solar panels on a stupid wall does not change the fact that the wall is a stupid and pointless waste of money,” geoscientist Raymond Pierrehumbert said.
