Towel shortage leaves nude swimmers out in the cold in Tassie

Over 1,000 people lined up this week on Hobart’s Sandy Bay Beach for the annual ‘Dark Mofo’ festival nude swim – a record number that left some even more bare bummed when organisers underestimated how many towels they would need, according to the ABC.

In past years, many of those who registered for the event didn’t show up on the day (no surprise there), but that didn’t prove to be the case this year.

With temperatures sitting around a chilly 4C on the beach, participants turned to open fires to warm up ahead of their dip in the relatively warmer 14C water.

Organisers now say they will double the amount of towels for next year’s event, which marks both the end of the arts and culture festival and the winter solstice.

Many of the swimmers said they will still be back again too.

“I can say yes, because I have a whole year to think about it,” one participant said.
