A record 65.6 million people left their homes because of war and violence in 2016, an increase of 300,000 on the previous year, according to the latest report from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

The majority of the 22.5 million refugees were from Syria, Afghanistan and South Sudan – half were children – while another 40.3 million people were displaced within their own countries.

It’s hard to picture what it would be like – which is why UNICEF has released this video of refugees Harry and Ahmed.

It’s only two minutes – just long enough to break your heart. Watch it here.

June 20 was World Refugee Day.
