Keen to ditch the big smoke? Move to a retirement village

Aussies are abandoning our pricey capital cities for regional areas both on the coast and inland, according to the latest ABS data showing areas with the highest – and lowest – internal migration from CoreLogic.

Top of the list was the Gold Coast which had 6,428 new arrivals in 2015/16, a jump of almost 40 per cent in the last year and the biggest number of new residents on record.

It was followed by the Sunshine Coast, west of Melbourne and Geelong.

In total, 13 of the top 25 regions were outside our capital cities – usually close to the city, but offering more of a sea or tree change lifestyle.

The best of both worlds

And where can these “changers” move to? A retirement village or Land Lease Community of course!

Many communities are in these prime locations, like Avington Living, a new lifestyle village by property developer Hallmarc at Point Cook. Close to the coast, it’s just 30 minutes from Melbourne.

And you don’t have to pay stamp duty to downsize to a Village or Land Lease Community as we reported here.

Time to think about making the switch?
