ANZ has become the first Aussie bank to roll out voice recognition on digital devices. From mid-year, its 5.5 million customers will be able to use their voices to automatically authorise payments over $1,000 on its mobile app.
Currently customers need to use Internet banking or go into a branch to carry out transactions over this amount.
And it’s a lot safer than traditional banking.
Peter Dalton, ANZ’s Managing Director of Customer Experience and Digital Channels, says a person’s voice has five to ten times as many security points compared to other methods such as fingerprints.
“The technology is now so advanced that it can tell the difference between identical twins or even a voice recording,” he said.
It makes sense – already we are using our voices to control our digital devices (Siri, anyone?)
