The move is in response to US President Donald Trump’s ban on people from Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen visiting the US.
In a statement, the organisation said:
“With recent changes to U.S. border entry rules, Girl Guides of Canada determined it was important for us to closely re-examine our current travel program. Our primary goal was to reduce the risk of our members encountering difficulties at the border and ensuring that no girl is left behind.”
The 107-year-old organisation is well-known for its inclusivity guidelines – in 2015, they updated them to welcome transgender girls for the 70,000 strong group.
The Guides aren’t the first to cancel a trip to the country since Trump’s inauguration.
As we highlighted here, tourism to the US has dropped off significantly in its wake.
