Toblerone, the famous Swiss chocolate bar, has undergone a dramatic makeover in the UK – and sweet tooths are pointing the finger at Brexit.
Its US-based manufacturer Mondelez International has widened the spaces between its triangular-shaped rows, offering about 10 per cent less product – for the same price.
The move has resulted in a flood of angry complaints on the company’s Facebook page. The manufacturer says they are simply responding to higher prices for ingredients, but fans aren’t buying it as these tweets show.
The value of the pound has plunged since Britons voted to leave the European Union in June, raising the price for imported goods.
But it’s not the first time confectionary manufacturers have faced backlash over the decision to downsize treats.
Allen’s ran into serious opposition in 2014 when it cut the size of its Killer Pythons, while Cadbury has steadily been shrinking its popular Dairy Milk blocks.
