Topic: Flight Comparison Sites including Webjet, Expedia, Kyak and skyscanner

Why do you need or want this?

When you are booking your flights and you want to get the best possible deal but you don’t want to look up each individual airline site, these sites will help you.

What can they do?

Once you have typed in your preferred departure and arrival dates, the sites will show you many, if not all, of the flights available for those dates, from a variety of airlines, allowing you to easily compare flight times and prices.

Best features:

You can search according to the ‘best price’ or to specific times. All of these sites can show you some good deals on hotels, travel insurance and car hire as well. Skyscanner allows you to look for flights to a particular destination over a longer time frame – say a year or a month – so you can see when the cheapest flights are available.

What should you look out for?

Webjet does charge money for their service so when you pay for the flights you will be charged two fees from Webjet as well. The first is the service fee of $21.95 for domestic or New Zealand/Pacific flights, plus $32.95 for international flights. The second is booking price guarantee fee which is $12.95 for domestic, $14.95 for New Zealand/Pacific and $21.95 for international.

The other thing to remember is that these comparison sites may not include all of the available airlines so you may not be seeing the prices for all available flights.

As well, it’s possible a particular comparison site could favour certain products due to business links. So be alert about this when you’re checking any comparison site and as always, it pays to shop around.
