65 per cent of seniors in new research think the biggest misconception is that they struggle with technology.

According to the Australian Seniors Quality of Life Report, it’s also common for younger people of different generations to falsely assume that learning new things and addressing the modern world is difficult for the retiree community, along with their lack of energy for new adventures.

Most seniors (79 per cent) want to live independently for as long as possible, with it one of the top requirements for quality of life in retirement.

In fact, losing independence is one of seniors’ greatest fears. 82 per cent have a strong preference for continuing to live independently in their homes even if they should require additional support in the future, rather than enter a retirement village or aged care home.

The Quality of Life 2022 report is part of the Australian Seniors Series, which surveyed 5,000 Australians over 50 to find out how the senior community has adjusted to life since the pandemic and how that will affect retirement planning.
