Proving that there is no joy inflation will not take from us, Bunnings Warehouse has announced that prices for its iconic sausage sizzles will go up by a dollar.
Over the last five years, more than 155,000 sausage sizzles at Bunnings stores around Australia have raised upwards of $140 million for community groups, with Bunnings supplying the BBQs, gas bottles, marquees, and mobile payment gear at no charge.
Unfortunately, times are a-changin’, and the fundraisers themselves are struggling to pick up the tab for the sausages, oil, onions, bread, sauce, and drinks – so Bunnings, in response to feedback from community groups, will lift the standardised sausage-sizzle price from $2.50 a snag to $3.50 starting Saturday 23 July. This is the sausage sizzle’s first price change since 2007.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult couple of years with the lack of fundraising opportunities and the pressure on community group services and support continues to be a growing need in our wider community,” said Bunnings Group Managing Director Mike Schneider.
“We are committed to providing meaningful support to enable community groups to keep doing their essential work and we know that the sausage sizzle has been a vital fundraising opportunity, helping many groups big and small stay afloat over the years.
“The sausage sizzle will always be a community led initiative and we have listened and responded in a way we hope allows groups to maximise fundraising efforts, whilst still giving customers a simple way to support their local community.”
It’s not the end of the world, though: at least drinks will stay $1.50.
