Only in America: Who’s been sleeping under my house?

Ever had a house guest that wouldn’t leave? Well, one California family has you beaten – they spent all winter with bears hibernating under their house.

According to the Bear League, a conservation group that works to preserve bear habitats and aid distressed bears near Lake Tahoe on the California-Nevada border, a mother bear and her four cubs (one of which was an adopted orphan) picked a cosy-looking house that looked not too cold, and not too warm, but just right for their annual hibernation.

“When it came time to go to sleep for the winter, she found a house with an unsecured crawl space opening and ushered all the kids inside and told them to Be Quiet and Go to Sleep.

“It was a home where people lived, and they thought they heard some odd rumbling, snoring-like noises but ignored it because it simply didn’t make sense… and the neighbours said they were imagining it because they didn’t hear anything,” the Bear League said in a Facebook post.

Thankfully, when the bears woke up, the Bear League was called in and quickly saw mama bear – and her children – safely away from the humans and back into the wild.

We wonder if they’re friends with Hank the Tank?
