Only in America: How to accidentally win the lottery

0

Ever had a rude encounter in the shops? Well, one California woman is thanking the man who jostled her at the supermarket – because it won her $10 million.

LaQuedra Edwards was buying her weekly scratchies last November when someone bumped her at the vending machine, causing her to put in the wrong number and accidentally buy a $30 ticket instead of her usual cheaper selection.

“He just bumped into me, didn’t say a thing and just walked out the door,” she said.

But when she scratched it off anyway, she couldn’t believe her eyes: she’d just won the top $10 million prize on a ticket she hadn’t even meant to buy.

“I didn’t really believe it at first, but I got on the 405 freeway and kept looking down at [the ticket], and I almost crashed my car.

“I pulled over, looked at it again and again, scanned it with my [California Lottery mobile] app, and I just kept thinking this can’t be right,” said LaQuedra, who plans to spend the money on a house as well as starting a non-profit organisation.

“I’m still in shock. All I remember saying once I found out how much I just won was, ‘I’m rich!’”

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to the newsagent to “accidentally” buy the wrong scratchie ourselves…
