Young journalists put the screws to the Prime Minister

Watch out, politicians of Australia: the next generation of voters and journalists is here, and they’re not going to make things easy for you.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison found this out himself when he sat down to speak with two teenage journalists, 14-year-old Leonardo Puglisi (left) and 13-year-old Roman Mackinnon (centre), on 6 News – a news network founded by Leo when he was in primary school.

Over the course of nearly 20 minutes, the PM was grilled by both Leo and Roman on issues ranging from the Budget and national security to questions raised about his honesty and integrity in outlets such as Crikey, with Leo at one point bluntly asking if Mr Morrison thought Australians weren’t interested in whether their leader tells the truth.

“Australians know that I’m upfront with them, and as politicians occasionally you might get the odd fact wrong or the odd figure wrong… that’s all just silly word games.

“What Australians care about is their job, their national security – they’re not interested in these types of juvenile debates,” the PM said.

Leo and the team at 6 News aren’t resting on their laurels, of course: they’re gunning for an interview with Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese next, which – depending on the election outcome in May – could land them two Prime Ministers in a row.

Perhaps they might eventually consider working for The Donaldson Sisters?
