With staffing shortages hitting the aged care sector, and rental accommodation difficult for workers to come by, WA-based provider Capecare has hit upon a novel solution to make sure employees have a roof over their heads.
The Not For Profit based in the state’s southwest has temporarily converted some of its Busselton respite care cottages into staff accommodation suitable for agency nurses and care staff from Perth, who can enjoy their own ensuite bedrooms and communal living spaces – with Geographe Bay beach just a short walk away.
“I love it here. It’s one of the best facilities I’ve worked in. The staff are all friendly and super accommodating,” said Alana (pictured, in blue), who works for a Perth-based nursing agency.
“The beach is right next to us and I spend the majority of my mornings there before I start my shift. The town is amazing too.”
14 bedrooms are available in Busselton for visiting staff, and the living spaces have TVs, lounges, commercial kitchens, and kitchenettes. Alana said she feels right at home, and is making friends with the “lovely people” who work at Capecare.
“I’m in the process of buying a house in Perth so I’m close enough to drive back there when I need to. Working remotely also provides an amazing opportunity to grow your career and earn some extra money and at the moment there’s plenty of demand,” she said.
A great initiative for staff – and one more providers might need to consider.
