Only in America: Another big boat stuck

0

You’d think that, after last year’s Suez Canal debacle, shipping giant Evergreen would tell its crews to take a bit more care with navigation.

And yet, 12 months after the Ever Given gummed up the works in Egypt, another Evergreen ship has run aground in Chesapeake Bay, off the coast of Maryland, USA.

Officials have been attempting to refloat the 334-metre container vessel (image above from ABC13 Eyewitness News), which was on its way from Baltimore to Norfolk, Virginia, and thankfully isn’t blocking traffic like its sister did; there’s also no injuries, pollution, or damage reported.

“The ship’s grounding is not preventing other ships from transiting to the Port of Baltimore,” Maryland Port Administration Executive Director William P. Doyle said in a statement reported by Bloomberg.

“Efforts have been underway since last night to try and free the ship and will continue today. The Coast Guard is monitoring the situation.”

Still, it’s not a great look for Evergreen, especially after the fiasco last March that caused huge disruptions to global freight and made the Ever Given and its owners a laughingstock around the world.

The real kicker? This particular ship is called… Ever Forward.

Might want to consider a new name for it, lads.
