If you live in Adelaide, you might have noticed a peculiar mystery: giant googly eyes popping up on buildings and landmarks around the city.
The anonymous prankster – or pranksters – have struck a number of famous faces over the past few weeks, including Colonel Sanders, Dan Murphy, Jim of Jim’s Mowing, and on Monday, a statue of Colonel William Light (pictured), the city’s first surveyor.
Locals may be mystified, but they’re definitely appreciating the googly-eye bandit’s daring feats of derring-do, crediting the phantom eye-googler with bringing smiles to faces during what has been a tough virus-riddled time.
Adelaide’s Lord Mayor, Sandy Verschoor, told the ABC that though Colonel Light’s eyes have been de-googled, she appreciates the effort to give citizens a few laughs.
“We’ll certainly ‘keep an eye’ on things and, as always, we don’t condone graffiti, offensive messages or property damage,” she said.
