A Bundaberg community group has been honoured for 27 years of tireless fundraising for residents of the Kepnock Grove aged care home.

The Friends of Kepnock Grove auxiliary group, over its nearly three decades, raised around $150,000 for the community through cake stalls, canteens, fashion parades, and other activities.

These funds went towards new amenities such as a chapel, a pergola, air conditioning, robotic therapy animals, medical aids, and a brain trainer computer, as well as animal farm visits.

“What motivated me was helping the residents and staff improve things at the aged care home and make their lives more enjoyable. We were always a happy band of people,” said Lyn Doyle, a founding member of the auxiliary and its first secretary.

Sadly, the group has recently been forced to dissolve due to COVID-19 as well as ageing members and trouble filling committee positions; however, Jodie Little, Carinity Kepnock Grove Residential Manager, says the group has left a lasting and valuable legacy and improved the lives of thousands of residents over the years.

“Their contributions have helped our residents to live happy and comfortable lives and created cherished special memories and experiences for them, their families, our carers and staff.

“We gratefully appreciate this and are so thankful that people in the Bundaberg community care for our seniors as much as Carinity does,” she said.

Time for some well-earned rest, we think.
