Queensland looks to boost vax rates – with schnitties

If you’re in Queensland and still somehow need a reason to get your COVID-19 jab, perhaps a new incentive by the State Government will convince you.

Working in partnership with Clubs Queensland, the Government is giving away 7,250 food and beverage vouchers good for $10 at clubs in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, and Brisbane for people who get their first dose of a vaccine.

The vouchers are being handed out at vaccination hubs following first doses, and QLD Health Minister Yvette D’Ath says she hopes it will boost vaccine rates.

“If people weren’t convinced by the fact getting vaccinated could keep you out of hospital and save your life, they might be enticed by a $10 voucher that can be used at local clubs.

“It’s another reason to get vaccinated. Getting the jab means you’re 80% less likely to get COVID and pass it on. It’s time to roll up your sleeve and get the jab then roll up to your local club and have a feed,” she said.

Clubs Queensland CEO Kelly Egan says the clubs are happy to do their part to support the vaccine rollout.

“Getting vaccinated is the best thing Queenslanders can do to keep safe and healthy and keep our community connected.

“Community Clubs connect everyone and as an industry, we’re happy to support our community by encouraging people to get vaccinated,” he said.

So, if you’re up in the Sunshine State and still holding out, now’s as good a time as ever to get your free COVID-19 vaccine – and a discount parmi out of the bargain too.
