A brave group of ladies from Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village in WA have come together for a nude calendar to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research.
With an average of 55 people being diagnosed with breast cancer every day, homeowner Bev Hall rallied more than 18 other women in the village to take part in the calendar, which shows the residents going about their lives – watching a film, playing tennis, having afternoon tea – au naturel, with strategically-placed props preserving their modesty.
“There was a massive amount of planning involved in setting up the shots, and the ages of the models range from 60 to 80.
“The enthusiasm for the initiative was fuelled by the fact that we have all been affected by breast cancer, either personally or through a relative or friend,” said Bev.
The most common cancer affecting Australian women, it is estimated that breast cancer will be diagnosed in 19,866 women and 164 men over the course of 2021. According to Bev, the hope is that the calendar will bring breast health into the spotlight and remind people – especially women post-menopause, when cancer most often strikes – to check their breasts and have screenings.
“With so many women in the over-50s age group affected by breast cancer, we hope that we offer a timely reminder that saves lives, and at the same time, raises important funds for research.”
The calendar is on sale for $10, with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Network Australia.
