A couple who got rid of their son’s pornography collection have been told they must pay him $30,441 in compensation.
US District Judge Paul Maloney’s decision came eight months after 43-year-old David Werking won a lawsuit against his parents Paul and Beth Werking.
He said his parents had no right to throw out his collection of films, magazines and other items. Mr Werking had lived at their Grand Haven home in Michigan for 10 months after a divorce before moving to Muncie, Indiana.
The judge, who described it as “a trove of pornography and an array of sex toys”, made the monetary order after the value set by an expert Dr Victoria Hartmann, determined the destroyed collection’s value to be $30,441.54. Dr Hartmann could not provide a value for 107 titles on the son’s list.
Mr Werking’s parents also must pay US$14,500 to their son’s lawyer.
After moving to Indiana, Mr Werking learned a dozen boxes of pornographic films and magazines were missing. They never showed up and he emailed his father.
“Frankly, David, I did you a big favour getting rid of all this stuff,” his dad said.
We have to agree.
