IKEA now selling renewable energy

Putting together furniture from IKEA can be a rewarding (if frustrating) experience – imagine enjoying a well-deserved cuppa afterwards by using renewable energy.

Yes, the world’s biggest furniture brand is now very concerned about climate change.

Ingka Group, the owner of most IKEA stores worldwide, said in a media release households in Sweden would be able to buy affordable renewable electricity from solar and wind parks, and track their usage through a subscription app, STRÖMMA.

“Good not only for their wallets but very much so also for the planet,” exclaim Ingka.

The electricity from fossil fuels used at home has an impact on both our health and our planet.

“One simple action we can all take is switching to more renewable energy at home. IKEA offers more sustainable solutions that can be integrated seamlessly into our everyday lives. In addition to STRÖMMA in Sweden, IKEA offers solar panels to customers in 11 markets, with the ambition to enable customers in all our Ingka Group markets to use and generate more renewable energy through our energy services by 2025,” says Jan Gardberg, New Retail Business Manager, Ingka Group.

Very laudable but I expect IKEA will continue to make its products from what were once forests.
