Female team fined after refusing to wear bikini bottoms – but would men wear them?

This makes my blood boil and shows just how out of touch the heads of many sports are.

The European Handball Federation fined Norway’s womens beach handball team more than $2,000 over “a case of improper clothing” in the bronze medal championship match against Spain in Bulgaria.

The women wore shorts instead of bikini bottoms. That’s “Improper clothing”!

Rose Boyd, who plays for Australia’s beach handball team, told SBS’ The Feed no athlete should be forced to wear a uniform that they do not feel comfortable in.

“Could you imagine how many men would be deterred from playing the sport if they were required to wear budgie smugglers?” Boyd said.

“It is so much easier to focus on your performance… when you do not have to worry about whether your bikini bottom has ridden up in an unflattering way… or what angle a photographer might be able to capture you on.”

And let’s not forget the Olympics is going ahead in Japan with the country in a State of Emergency due to the spiraling cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 and events are taking place without crowds.

Let’s put a woman in charge of the IOC and European Handball Federation and get the men to dress like the women, I say.
