Yabba dabba doo! Bizarre ‘Fred Flintstone House’ wins US court battle

Would you want to live next door to this house?

Media tycoon Florence Fang spent US$2.8 million on the 3,000-square-foot property in Hillsborough, a rich suburb of San Francisco, which she turned into The Flintstone House, based on the animated 1960s cartoon.

There are large metal dinosaurs, Flintstones figurines and letters on the grass that spell out “Yabba-dabba-doo”. Inside there are blue iridescent floors in a Gold Rush-themed room, adorned with San Francisco 49ers panning for gold.

Mrs Fang does not live in the orange, red and purple domed house which lies on a hill overlooking Interstate 280 but continues to make it evolve.

Unsurprisingly the outdoor installations led to almost two years of legal battles with Hillsborough Council.

But 86-yer-old Mrs Fang has now settled the dispute with the council agreeing to cover Mrs Fang’s $125,000 in legal fees.

The dinosaurs, mushrooms and other yard decor could stay and Mrs Fang says she will continue to add new sculptures – although she does have to clear a path for the Fire Department.

The word ‘fire hazard’ certainly does come to mind.
