Only in America: Trump closes his ‘beacon of freedom’ website

Former US President Donald Trump, banned from social media sites Twitter and Facebook, has closed his blog-style website that he declared ‘a beacon of freedom’ on its launch, as we reported last month.

Jason Miller, a senior aide to Mr Trump, confirmed the ‘From the Desk of Donald J Trump’ online communication tool had shut in a statement to CNBC, just weeks after saying the site was “a place to speak freely and safely”.

The 74-year-old Trump, who looks set to be the Republican presidential nominee again in 2024, is still disputing the result of the 2020 US Election. He recently claimed an entire database of election files had been deleted in Maricopa County.

“The deletion of an entire Database and critical Election files of Maricopa County is unprecedented. Many other states to follow,” he wrote on his website.

“The Mainstream Media and Radical Left Democrats want to stay as far away as possible from the Presidential Election Fraud, which should be one of the biggest stories of our time.”

Last weekend, the website crashed after Trump posted allegations of the election “audit” in Arizona that he claimed provided proof that Joe Biden’s victory was “stolen”. Visitors to donaldjtrump.com on Wednesday found only an archive of Trump’s media statements dating back to January and a link to an online shop for Trump merchandise.

Meanwhile Miller signaled it was not the last we will hear of Trump.

Love him, or hate him, Donald Trump is one derisive human being.
