Paddington 2 overtakes Citizen Kane as the top-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes

The 2017 film Paddington 2 is now the greatest movie of all time, toppling the 1941 classic Citizen Kane as top of the film review website’s Certified Fresh list, thanks to its 100 per cent rating and the unearthing of a negative 80-year-old Chicago Tribune review of the classic Orson Welles film classic saw it lose its perfect 100 per cent rating.

Based on the stories of Paddington Bear, the live-action/CGI-animated family film sequel, still retains a 100 per cent score and becomes the best movie ever. Film buffs may know The Terminator, Modern Times and Singin’ in the Rain also have a 100 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score however, Paddington 2, has considerably more reviews.

Paddington 2 director and writer Paul King didn’t get too excited.

“It’s extremely lovely to be on any list which includes Citizen Kane, but it is obviously quite an eccentric list that goes from Citizen Kane to Paddington 2, so I’ll try not to take it too seriously,” King told The Hollywood Reporter.

King was asked how Paddington, voiced by Ben Whishaw, would feel about the accolade.

“I imagine he’d just crack open the marmalade and have a second sandwich — you’d like to think he wouldn’t get too carried away,” he said.

“But maybe he would! I’m not sure he’s known such an honour in his young life.”
