Japanese man Takashi Miyagawa has been accused of dating at least 35 women and telling them he had a different birth date in order to get presents.
The 39-year-old received around 100,000 yen in gifts, or US$766, which consisted of “smaller birthday gifts of money and clothing,” according to Japan Today.
He was arrested in Osaka, as police investigated accusations, he defrauded the women by leading them to believe he was serious about a long-term relationship.
A 47-year-old woman claimed he told her his birthday was 22 February, while a 40-year-old woman said his birthday was in July and a 35-year-old thought it was in April.
The allegation is that the different birthdays was used to ensure that he would always be receiving gifts or money in lieu of.
It is reported that the women found out about his duplicitous behaviour, they decided to join together and formed a “victims association” before speaking to authorities last February.
Miyagawa reportedly met at least 35 of his victims through his job at a marketing company, which sells shower products.
Police are now looking into whether more women were involved in the lothario’s scam.
