Major the German Shepherd will receive further training away from the White House after two incidents at his new home, a spokesperson for the first lady, Jill Biden, has announced.
The rescue dog will reportedly receive private training in the Washington area after he bit two staff – in one case, a Secret Service agent who received a “minor injury” last month.
“Nipping is probably more accurate than biting,” spokesperson Michael LaRosa said.
It’s the second round of training for the errant pup after he took a ‘nip’ out of a National Parks officer earlier in March.
White House press has stressed that Major – and the Biden’s other German Shepherd Champ – are still adjusting to life on Pennsylvania Avenue.
US President Joe Biden has maintained that Major – who was adopted from an animal shelter in 2018 – is a “sweet dog”.
“Eighty-five percent of the people there love him. He just — all he does is lick them and wag his tail,” he said. “But … I realise some people, understandably, are afraid of dogs to begin with.”
With so many aides and security staff around, we’re sure that life in the big House can also be ‘ruff’.
