Aged care training set to be overhauled to include disability care and palliative care

A positive step in the right direction.

The current Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) is set to be overhauled to allow students to be trained across both aged care and disability after the program was found wanting.

SkillsIQ was commissioned by the Federal Government to review the vocational education and training (VET) qualifications for the aged care sector and concluded the program resulted in many students entering the sector without the requisite skills.

The update of the Certificate III in Individual Support will be conducted alongside the Certificate IV in Ageing Support and Certificate IV in Disability.

The changes to the program are expected to be by the end of 2021 for implementation in 2022- and it couldn’t come soon enough!
