Are you prepared to make your age pension claim?

If you’ve been knocked back for the age pension or are getting ready to apply for it, the Federal Government has listed all the reasons they might decide to knock you back.

A Government paper outlined the five main reasons a person’s claim for the age pension could be denied.

–          You haven’t been an Australian resident for long enough:

Generally, you will need to have been an Australian resident for at least 10 years with no break in residence for 5 years.

–          You didn’t reply to the Government’s request for more information:

The Government will write to you if they need more information to approve your application, don’t ignore them.

–          You own assets above the cut-off point:

This includes assets both you and your partner own and they will be assessed through an asset test.

–          Your income is above the cut-off point:

The income for both you and your partner will be assessed and it can impact on how much you will receive.

–          You didn’t hand over the documents required:

When you claim online you will be told what documents you will need to supply which will help assess the claim faster.

The Government also has a range of support to help you with your claim.
