Seniors from across Australia have taken part in an innovative new virtual program where they were able to enjoy beer tasting from the safety of their home.
The participants, all aged between 68 and 87, were provided with the opportunity through Feros Care’s Virtual Social Centre, which gives residents a chance to interact with others while socially distancing.
Inspired by Oktoberfest, the participants met once a week on Wednesday from October to November, to enjoy a four-part virtual beer tasting event with Byron Bay’s Stone & Wood brewery.
Stone & Wood tasting room manager, Jess Flynn, gave the participants a virtual tour of their facility where they met the team and learnt about the brewing process.
They were also sent a four-pack of mixed beers from which Jess helped them to perfect the right way to taste and evaluate a beer, from suds to colour, flavour and aroma.
Patricia Reh from the Illawarra invited friends, and fellow clients, around to join in the tasting session (pictured above) and said they had a whale of a time.
“We got dressed up in German outfits, had German food and did a lot of singing and dancing,” said Mrs Reh.
The Virtual Social Centre is a subscription-based platform with government funding available for eligible clients. For more information, click here.
