The Austrian village of F***ing has been forced to change its name after residents grew tired of tourists making fun of their community, The Guardian reports.

The tiny village, with a population of just 104 residents – known colloquially as F***ingers – has endured endless jokes from tourists and the theft of countless road signs.

Mayor Andrea Holzner said from 1 January, 2021, the village will be known as Fugging, which is closer to the way locals already pronounce the name.

The town was founded in 1070 and was originally named after Baron Focko, before the name evolved to F***ing.

Despite the name, or some variation of it, existing for almost 1,000 years, it didn’t become well known until the Internet gave rise to a string of images depicting the street signs.

Since then, the village has been inundated with tourists looking to make a mockery, which resulted in the vote to change the name.
