New research from the UK suggests you’re never too old to reach tip top shape.
The retrospective study by the University of Warwick and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust examined 242 randomly selected patients who’d taken part in an obesity lifestyle intervention service between 2005 and 2016.
Researchers divided these people into two groups – those aged 60 years and under, and those aged between 60 and 78 years.
The idea was to see what factor age played in the amount of weight loss that someone could achieve by the lifestyle interventions laid out by the programme.
Interestingly, researchers noted it didn’t make a huge difference.
In fact, those aged 60 years and over had managed to reduce their body weight through the program by 7.3 percent, compared to those 60 and under who saw a 6.9 percent reduction.
The study’s lead author, Professor Thomas Barber, says this is proof in parcel that it’s never too late to pursue a positive intervention for your health.
“Rather than putting up barriers to older people accessing weight loss programmes, we should be proactively facilitating that process,” he adds.
