Well, the votes are in, but at time of writing everything was still up in the air.
America went to the polls this week to decide whether Joe Biden or Donald Trump would be the next leader of the free world.
Watching the votes come in has been gripping, and at times frustrating, especially with some states experiencing delayed results as they processed a record number of mailed-in ballots.
Former Vice President Joe Biden made a brief statement earlier today, urging calm and patience.
“In America, the vote is sacred. It’s how the people of the nation express their will. And it is the will of the voters, not anyone else, who chooses the president. And so, every ballot must be counted,” he said.
“Democracy is sometimes messy. It sometimes requires patience as well. We continue to feel very good about where things stand – we have no doubt that when the count is finished, Senator Harris and I will be declared the winners.”
“So I ask everyone to stay calm, the process is working, the count is being completed and we will know very soon,” he said.
Trump alleges election fraud
Compare this to the last time Trump was in front of the cameras, and without evidence, alleged some sort of widespread electoral fraud was afoot.
“Frankly, we did win this election,” he said from the White House on election night.
“So, our goal now is to ensure the integrity for the good of this nation. This is a very big moment. This is a major fraud on our nation. We want the law to be used in a proper manner. So, we’ll be going to the US Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop.”
It’s been an election race that will certainly live on in our memories – but at the end of the day, there can only be one winner.
