“Give me all your rubbish and no one gets hurt!” Racoons ransack bank in California

If you thought Australia’s possums could be problematic, take a look at this pair of raccoons who were caught red-pawed after breaking into a bank in California, USA.

The mischievous mammals were spotted by a customer who was withdrawing cash at the bank outlet in Redwood City, around 43km south of San Francisco – and the pair were just as guilty as they looked!

The racoons had reportedly climbed from a nearby tree into the bank’s air ducts before falling through the ceiling tiles and onto the floor.

Security footage showed the racoons prowling the floors, messing up papers and knocking a computer over – but thankfully they didn’t take anything valuable.

Their heist wouldn’t last for long however.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was called, and after a brief chase the animals were shooed out of the building.

“It’s not every day an animal organisation gets called to deal with a bank break-in, but since the bank robbers were masked bandits of the wildlife kind, we were indeed the appropriate responders,” said SPCA communications manager Buffy Martin Tarbox.

We just hope they’ve learnt their lesson!
