An actor behind one of Australia’s most iconic television shows has been recruited by the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) to promote a new coronavirus app.
Alan Fletcher, or Dr Karl Kennedy as he is known on Ramsay Street, had regularly visited the UK before the pandemic and was more than happy to help spread the word.
“My heart goes out to anyone who has suffered in the UK and I love doing any small thing I can to help promote good practices,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald.
The NHS app launched late last month after a few delays and has already been downloaded by 14 million people, but needs a higher take-up to be effective.
Neighbours remains a popular program in the UK and Mr Fletcher donated his time along with his castmate Stefan Dennis, who plays Paul Robinson in the long running soap series, to promote the app.
“It’s hard sometimes to think outside your own bubble. We tend to live very much in our own little world and we don’t pay a lot of attention to what is happening in other countries,” Mr Fletcher added.
Let’s hope the Britons listen up to Dr Karl then.
