Baptistcare WA residents experience Busselton jetty adventure

0

COVID-19 has significantly limited the movements of aged care residents, but many providers are embracing technology and finding creative ways to keep everyone busy!

Baptistcare WA’s William Carey Court aged care home in Busselton is the perfect example.

Residents are using online video platform Zoom to connect with Busselton Jetty tour guide and marine biology student Olivia Rynvis.

Olivia had volunteered her time to give residents a virtual underwater observatory tour and conduct special presentations about the jetty’s history and marine life.

This sparked special memories for many residents, including 90-year-old Roy Morris (pictured) who had served on the former Busselton Jetty Environment and Conservation Association and had one of the train platforms at the jetty named in his honour.

Roslyn McDonald, Lifestyle Coordinator at the facility, said residents loved the initiative.

“The residents were amazed at the technology and felt they were right there, underwater,” Mrs McDonald said.

“They loved seeing all the fish from their chairs in the activity room.”

A great initiative.
