Only in America: Trump all but rules out peaceful changing of the guard if Biden wins – “there won’t be a transfer”

We’re just over a month away from the US election.

And while the result still seems to very much be in the balance, no matter which way the country leans, one thing is certain – the aftermath won’t be pretty.

In a recent press conference, President Donald Trump wouldn’t commit to a peaceful transfer of power if things didn’t swing his way in November.

“Well, we’re going to have to see what happens. You know that,” he said, when he was asked if he will leave the White House peacefully if he loses the election.

When pressed again by journalists, Trump deflected his attention to the ballots.

“We want to have – get rid of the ballots and you’ll have a very peaceful, there won’t be a transfer, frankly,” Trump said.

“There’ll be a continuation.”

Trump failing to commit to a peaceful handover is somewhat unprecedented.

Even his predecessor Richard Nixon said, “In the orderly transfer of power, we celebrate the unity that keeps us free.”

But it seems like that’s the world we’re living in these days.
