US vinyl sales have surpassed CD sales for the first time in over three decades.

In a sign of the interesting times the music industry has found itself in, a report from The Recording Industry Association showed vinyl sales accounted for $232.1 million of music sales in the first half of 2020, while CDs only brought in $129.9 million.

The last time vinyl sales outstripped CD sales was in 1986.

Overall industry sales dropped by 23% last year.

And while CD sales were down 48%, vinyl sales actually started to climb.

802,000 records were sold across the country, helped along the way by promotions like Record Store Day and limited releases from artists.

Now that’s a good reason to dust off the old turntable!
