That’s gold! Queensland’s outback pubs and clubs celebrate re-opening – with free beer

Last week, we were pouring beer down the drain. Now, it’s being trucked out to our country drinking holes as they prepare to re-open their doors this weekend as restrictions begin to lift across the state.

A truck carrying 60 kegs departed the XXXX Brewery in Milton to deliver a free keg to pubs and clubs re-opening this weekend in Roma, Barcaldine, Ilfracombe, Longreach, Dulacca, Yuleba, Wallumbilla, Mungallala and Blackall – over 3,000 litres of the amber liquid in total.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says because part of outback Queensland haven’t seen any cases of COVID-19, their drinking establishments will be open from today, catering to 20 patrons at a time (social distancing rules observed of course).

XXXX Sales Director Pat Donohue said it had credited its customers for all full kegs when they were forced to close at the start of lockdown measures – about $5 million – but it wanted to do more.

“We hope this truck full of free kegs will make it a little bit easier for them to turn their taps back on this weekend – and bring their communities back together,” he said.

We’re sure it will – have a cold one for us!
