The man – whose identity remains unknown – had run into woodlands in Harworth, Nottinghamshire, last week with officers pursuing him on foot, the BBC reports.
They were unable to locate him until they heard a noise “believed to be the sound of someone breaking wind.”
One of the police officers stated later: “I was almost out of wind running but luckily the suspect still had some. I heard him letting rip and followed the noises to a bush.”
The suspect – who was reportedly wanted on two charges – was taken into custody along with another man, who had been found hiding behind a fireplace at a nearby property.
Locals have been highly amused by the events, with one telling the media: “Police have a nose for these things.”
Another put it more simply: “Better out than in.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
