An update on Tom Moore, the World War II army captain who had set out to raise £1,000 (AUD$1,939) for the country’s National Health Service (NHS) by walking 100 laps of his garden before he hit a century on 30 April.

We are pleased to report that Captain Moore’s appeal has now topped a huge £32 million (AUD$62 million) with the veteran made an honorary colonel and presented with a replacement World War Two Defence Medal on his special day.

The occasion was also marked by an RAF fly-past and personal birthday greetings from the Queen and the Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The newly promoted Colonel also received another honour last week, becoming the oldest person ever to achieve a number one single in the UK after recording a duet ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ with English singer Michael Ball.

“Reaching 100 is quite something. Reaching 100 with such interest in me and huge generosity from the public is very overwhelming,” he told the BBC.

“People keep saying what I have done is remarkable, however it’s actually what you have done for me which is remarkable.”

“Please always remember, tomorrow will be a good day.”
