A World Championship for Excel spreadsheets? Yes, it’s real

If you’re one of those people who ‘nerds’ out over the perfect graph, here’s exciting news – there is a World Championship for Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to find the world’s best ‘spreadsheeter’.

Sounds bizarre right? But with a $10,000 cash prize – and perhaps one of the most attention-grabbing CV embellishments – it’s a hot competition for first place.

First held in 2019, the event now attracts more than 750,000 contestants, from around the globe.

While most who take part in the competition are aged 13 to 22, the Excel skills of some of the highest-ranking participants are enough to beat out those of office veterans.

The next event is due to be staged in California in August this year (we assume online).

Time to start brushing up on those spreadsheet skills?
