Italian mayor wants drones to swear at people breaking coronavirus lockdown rules

Cateno De Luca (pictured), mayor of the town of Messina in Sicily, has posted a Facebook video saying that he wants drones to shout swear words at people ignoring stay-at-home rules during the coronavirus outbreak.

“I can’t wait for it… drones everywhere,” he said, adding: “My voice that will say as soon as I catch you, ‘where the **** are you going? Go back home!’. This will be the voice of the drone.”

He’s not the only Italian mayor to threaten their residents with serious consequences if they don’t obey the lockdown rules to stay at home unless they need to go to work, buy food and medicine or run other urgent errands.

“I’m getting news that some would like to throw graduation parties. We will send over the police. With flamethrowers,” the President of Campania Vincenzo De Luca has told his errant townspeople in a video of Italian mayors going off on their citizens that has now gone viral.

“I’m the Mayor. You won’t ‘stroll’ into my town,” another says.

You can watch it here (a strong language warning on this one!)

Sounds crazy? But despite the lockdown which started on 10 March, there is concern about infections increasing if people don’t stick to social distancing.

Better watch out then – who wants to face a flamethrower?
