Saluti! Red wine flows from taps in Italian town

0

A lighter moment in a dark week for our Italian friends. Residents in the northern Italian town of Castelvetro have had Lambrusco pour out of their taps and shower heads after a malfunction at the local Cantina Settecani winery caused 1,000 litres of about-to-be-bottled wine to leak into the town’s pipes.

The issue affected around 20 homes and lasted for around three hours – long enough for one resident to reportedly fill around 20 bottles.

The local government posted on its Facebook pages that the leak didn’t pose any health risks – and Deputy Mayor Giorgia Mezzacqui says the mishap has given people a laugh in a serious time for the town, which is usually a destination for food and wine lovers.

“At a time where we have very little to smile about, I’m glad we brought some levity to others,” he told CNN“Hopefully someday they’ll remember us and will want to come visit us.”

The possibility of free wine? We’re in.
