Retirement villages and land lease communities are the future of aged care in Australia, according to the Royal Commission into Aged Care’s newest research paper on innovative models of care.
The research says groups of individual units with shared supporting services, with smart-home technology and onsite nursing care, giving a sense of community and enabling couples to remain together are one of the models that could be adopted to keep people living longer at home.
Sounds like a retirement living community to us!
Villages and LLCs already have these features in place with home care services able to be delivered into homes.
Many are also offering assisted living or serviced apartments now for those who need more support, but don’t want to leave their community to move into residential care.
Critically, they also offer the community – and the “joy” – that the Commissioners say is so important to ageing well.
Others are already onto this idea. In January, nearly 65,000 people searched on villages.com.au for a new home. Find out more here.
