South Australian provider offers its serviced apartments to Australians displaced by bushfires

Some good news out of the bushfire crisis. Not-for-profit Uniting Communities (pictured) is making six of the Accessible Serviced Apartments at its flagship ‘U City’ development in the centre of the Adelaide CBD available for free for people needing temporary accommodation.

The two-bedroom apartments – which are built for accessibility with wider doors and thresholds – are designed for people with medium and high-physical support needs but will be available to anyone – not just those with disability – displaced by the bushfires.

Uniting Communities’ CEO Simon Schrapel.

Uniting Communities’ CEO Simon Schrapel (pictured inset) says while no one is yet to take up the offer, they are visiting relief centres this week to let people know they can stay in the apartments while they are in the city.

“While we know people want to stay in the community,” he said, “we are anticipating people will avail themselves of the opportunity in the coming weeks.”

Yet another example of providers doing what they can to help during this devastating period.
