Can you predict if you’re becoming frail? This tool is designed to pick up the early signs

0

The Positive Ageing Tool or PAT is a new online tool for older Australians to self-screen their physical health – and take steps to curb any signs of frailty.

Developed by Victorian not-for-profit aged care provider Benetas following government-funded research that Benetas did in 2018 with Monash University, PAT asks five simple questions that are indicators of risk for serious health decline.

If you are deemed at being at an increased or higher risk, the tool offers advice to ensure you address any issues.

Benetas recommends people aged over 60 complete the assessment every six months to proactively monitor their health.

We tried the tool ourselves.

It’s a good idea. We all know someone who may have been managing well at home but then had a fall or a minor illness that tips them over into needing residential care.

With the Royal Commission into Aged Care’s Interim Report emphasising the importance of early intervention, why not make sure you stay living independently at home for longer?
